A dedicated cloud computing environment for a single customer is known as a private cloud computing environment.

 

In this approach, many of the benefits of cloud computing are integrated with the security and management of on-premises IT infrastructure. All clouds become private clouds when the underlying IT infrastructure is dedicated to a single customer with completely segregated access.

 

 

Private cloud: A Definition

 

Private cloud computing is a sort of cloud computing that offers many of the same benefits as public clouds, such as scalability and self-service, but through a private architecture. 

 

A private cloud, also known as an internal or corporate cloud, is dedicated to the needs and goals of a single firm, whereas public clouds serve several organizations.

 

Because the private cloud is a more convenient or the only alternative to meet regulatory compliance standards, many organizations prefer it to the public cloud. Cloud computing services are delivered over shared infrastructure by several clients.

 

Others prefer the private cloud because their workloads include proprietary documents, intellectual property, personally identifiable information (PII), medical records, financial data, or other sensitive information.

 

The first is infrastructure as a service (IaaS), which enables a company to rent infrastructure resources such as processing, networking, and storage. The second is the platform as a service (PaaS), which enables companies to build everything from simple cloud-based apps to complex corporate programs.

Types of private cloud

 

Based on who manages the private cloud environment and where the cloud solution is stored, a private cloud may be classified into four fundamental types: There are four types of private clouds: virtual private cloud, managed private cloud, hosted private cloud, and on-premise private cloud.   • Virtual private cloud

 

A virtual private cloud (VPC) is a safe and independent private cloud that is hosted within a public cloud. 

 

Customers that use VPCs may run programs, store data, host websites, and do whatever else a private cloud can do, but the private cloud is hosted remotely by a public cloud provider. VPCs combines the scalability and convenience of public cloud computing with the data isolation of private cloud computing. 

 

  • Managed private cloud

 

In this approach, the vendor takes care of the private cloud's support, maintenance, updates, and even remote management. It's a means for a company – possibly one that lacks the necessary employees – to delegate responsibility for the private cloud to a service provider. 

 

Vendors may also provide services farther up the stack, such as administering cloud-based software applications.

 

  • Hosted private cloud

 

A hosted private cloud is off-premise rather than on-premise, which means the cloud servers are not physically situated on the premises of the company that uses it. Instead, the cloud is managed and hosted remotely by a third party. 

 

Vendors of hosted private clouds provide cloud servers in their own data centers and are also in charge of security.

 

  • On-premises private cloud

 

On-premise cloud solutions, unlike hosted private clouds, allow customers to host a cloud environment on their own servers. It is important to have an internal data center to house the cloud server in such a cloud paradigm. 

 

Because they are hosted and maintained within an organization's IT department, this form of private cloud architecture is extremely secure. As a result, the company has total control over the servers' security, settings, and scalability.

How does the private cloud work?

 

Private clouds rely on a number of technologies but understanding how virtualization works are essential for understanding how private clouds work. Virtualization technology is used in a private cloud to pool resources generated from real hardware.

 

This eliminates the need for the cloud to generate environments by virtualizing resources from a variety of physical systems one at a time. All of those resources may be gathered via a controlled IT process from a single source, similar to a data supermarket.

 

Adding a layer of management software to the cloud enables administrative control over the infrastructure, platforms, applications, and data that will be used in the cloud by assisting cloud administrators in tracking and optimizing usage, overseeing integration points, and retaining or recovering data.

 

When the final automation layer is added to replace or remove human contact with repetitive instructions and processes, the self-service component of the cloud is complete, and that bundle of technologies is now a private cloud. The private cloud is one of three types of cloud deployments that corporations use: public cloud, private, and hybrid (there is also multi-cloud, which is any combination of the three).

Private Cloud Providers

 

1.  Oracle

 

Oracle has made significant investments in the cloud business and has emerged as a major participant in recent years. This platform, like HPE and VMware, holds a leadership position. Oracle VM virtual box is a hypervisor for X86 virtualization that Sun Microsystem obtained from Innotek.

 

Cloud Platforms/Applications, Infrastructure Management, and a Lifecycle Management Tool are among the company's offerings. Integration services and Managed cloud services are among the company's offerings. In the private cloud space, Oracle puts Amazon's virtual private services to the test.

 

2. HPE

 

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is widely regarded as a market leader in the private cloud business. The firm prides itself on being able to provide customized private cloud services, tailoring a combination of cloud apps and infrastructure tools to a client's specific requirements. This platform may then be utilized in a hybrid or multi-cloud environment.

 

HPE's private cloud services include hardware, software, and consulting. The "Helion" brand encompasses the Helion Cloud Suite software, Helion CloudSystem hardware, Helion Managed Private Cloud and Managed Virtual Private Cloud services, as well as a range of other goods.

 

3.  Dell

 

Dell, a long-time player in the private cloud industry, offers a complete developer platform with a diverse set of tools. In addition, the company has a collaboration with Microsoft to deliver a solution for Azure Stack, which is a private cloud hardware solution.

 

The combination with EMC, of course, greatly expands the resources it can provide the private cloud industry. Virtual private cloud services, cloud administration, and security software, and a range of cloud consulting services are just a few of Dell's private cloud offerings.

 

4. IBM

 

IBM's private cloud products include hardware such as IBM Systems and IBM Storage, hosted private cloud services, IBM Cloud Managed Services, cloud security technologies, and software such as Cloud Manager and Cloud Orchestrator.

 

It also provides cloud solutions and services for its System z mainframe platform. Its Bluemix cloud platform provides a full solution for moving end-to-end business processes to the cloud and resulting in a complete business transformation.

 

Server and storage solutions, as well as hosted cloud services, security tools, and a cloud manager or orchestrator are all available from IBM. Its distinguishing qualities include portability or integration, IBM Watson AI functions, robust analytics, 130+ services, and increased programmer productivity.

 

5. Citrix

 

Its hypervisor provides a safe and dependable open-source virtualization technology for cloud, server, and desktop environments. Citrix's commercial solution is called Xenserver, and it comes in four different versions.

 

Reduced infrastructure needs, lower administrative costs, less complexity, dynamic product updates, simplicity and flexibility in operations, and high scalability are all advantages of this platform.

 

The administration console's distinguishing characteristics include high availability, alerting and monitoring, live migration, excellent memory optimization, and power management.

 

6. NetApp

 

NetApp is a prominent storage manufacturer that also promotes its scalable, cloud-like installations for private clouds, and it has a major cloud footprint. Its purpose is to create a system that enables businesses to execute at scale, effectively, and without unnecessary intricacy - one of the key phrases is "simplify and automate."

 

NetApp's private cloud storage alternatives include NetApp Private Storage (NPS), the AltaVault cloud-integrated Storage backup solution, which can run on public or private clouds, and StorageGRID Webscale Object Storage, which can also run on public or private clouds.

 

NetApp Private Storage for Cloud and FlexPod convergent systems, which integrate NetApp and Cisco hardware and may be utilized in private cloud settings, are also available.

7. VMware
