While sustainable technology may appear to be a contradiction at first, it may be the solution we need to transition away from an unsustainable consumer culture that has become inextricably linked with the modern-day tech industry.
Smartphones, TVs, appliances, computers, and laptops are easy to break and expensive to repair. In other words, they are built to be thrown away. And our smartphones are the worst offenders! According to research, the average American owns a smartphone for only twelve months before purchasing a new one. In fact, smartphones have the shortest lifespan of any technology product on the market.
What is Sustainable Technology?
Sustainable technology is an umbrella term for any type of technology with a sustainable or green focus. Sustainable technology seeks to develop systems and products that have a positive environmental impact while also meeting the needs of society, the economy, and the environment. This includes everything from renewable energy to environmentally friendly agriculture.
There are numerous definitions of sustainable technology in use around the world. To us, true sustainable or environmentally friendly technology should ideally:

To elaborate, sustainable technology is a technology that has been specifically designed to mitigate or solve environmental issues, as well as technology that can be produced, used, and disposed of in a sustainable manner.
