Artificial Intelligence would transform glycomics datasets radically

Interestingly, AI has already made remarkable advancements in the medical field. It has even ventured into the field of glycobiology.
Research
Recently, a research team at the University of California (UC) San Diego, US, have generated a tool named GlyCompare.This tool would help the researchers to examine various glycomics datasets by making use of AI, "potentially leading to early cancer diagnoses," as DrugTargetReview says.
Glycomics fall under the field of glycobiology. It is an ordered study of glycan structures of specific cell type or organism. In other words, it is a study that includes genetic physiologic, pathologic aspects and others.The research team observes that the GlyCompare prefers looking at the biological steps that are needed to produce the subunits by synthesis, instead of looking at the whole glycan themselves.
And this approach makes a significant improvement in its accuracy of estimating glycomics data statistically.Nathan Lewis explains that the team has applied GlyCompare to cancer tissues and what they have excavated is that while one could not observe cancer restricted glycans through statistical means, "novel biomarkers emerge when processed using our method."
In order to bring up this technology, the team proceeded to understand the linkage between glycans in different contexts, as in gastric cancer tissues.

The researchers delved deeper and observed that GlyCompare is in need of as many samples to achieve analogous power to identify biomarkers.The research team has a firm belief that this approach would prove useful in inspecting such subtle modifications in glycosylation, even in sections including early stage cancer.
In this study which was published in Nature Communications, the researchers have been trying to grasp how GlyCompare is going to become one of the key factors in bringing glycomics to the clinic.

The research team envisions the possibility of GlyCompare's usage in the near future and that, it is going to be utilized to a great extent.
