The Making

An American multinational company,Intel Corporation stated on Monday that it shall make Qualcomm chips.

Qualcomm is basically known for the designation of Snapdragon chips. In other words, Snapdragon semiconductors are used in devices of systems like Android, Windows Phone and so on. These chips power Android phones. They are used even in cars and other wearable systems.  Intel also constructed a structure to give names to the process nodes. It concentrated on the fact that in the coming years, it shall reveal five new sets of chipmaking technologies.

Qualcomm chips will be manufactured through the upcoming 20A process. This 20A process shall help to power Qualcomm chips that are yet to arrive---with two technologies including RibbonFET, which shall be Intel’s first-ever made new transistor after FinFET (made in the year, 2011) and PowerVia.

Collaboration

Before all of this, Intel and Apple collaborated on chips that can be employed in iPhones. However, Intel did not succeed in making the 5G chips that Apple needed, so they both dropped the partnership.

Apple and Qualcomm were in a kind of a legal battle. Since Intel couldn’t make one, both these companies came to terms with respect to mutual understanding and settled the dispute that was going on.  Apple purchased modern chips built by Qualcomm. In this process, Intel decided to leave the modern chip business and let Apple purchase the smartphone modern business.

One thing is to be noted that Intel is not going to build Qualcomm chips for Amazon directly, but Amazon Web Services shall be collaborating with Intel Foundry Services, that is dependent on its packaging solutions. The foundry business is guided by NIT, Kurukshetra alumni Randhir Thakur.

According to Business Line, Intel’s CEO Pat Gelsinger declared his strategy of manufacturing expansion plans. Initially, he estimated about investing  20 billion in order to build two new manufacturing companies in Arizona. He had elaborated a roadmap to packaging technology.
