Netflix churns out a Rs 5 a month introductory offer for new users title banner

The acclaimed video streaming app Netflix is reportedly testing out a Rs 5 a month introductory offer for its new users in India. The company has recently put a stop to its free trial scheme and with India largely being a price-sensitive market, the firm is putting forward this strategy in order to lure new users into availing the platform. The offer was churned out to some users on February 21.

So far the company does not have a specific time frame in mind for concluding the offer and has not released its end date.  Similar to the firm’s 2019 campaign where it launched its mobile-only plan of Rs 199 a month, this offer will also be available to a few select users, so not everyone will be lucky enough to gain access to it.

A spokesperson of the platform has announced that the strategy has been launched to encourage more people to explore Netflix. Whether there will be a widespread execution of the offer or not will depend on its success.

However, there is no change so far in Netflix’s existing subscription plans that comprise of Rs 499 for Basic subscription, Rs 649 for Standard subscription, 799 for a premium subscription and Rs 199 for a mobile-only subscription.

Netflix is definitely experiencing the heat from its future competition, which is apparent with it testing out its new plan barely a month prior to the popular video streaming platform Hotstar launching the much-awaited Disney Plus;  wherein all of Disney Plus’s benefits and contents will be packed with Hotstar’s premium plans.
