Submarine Cable System

  • Submarine cable, is cable that is laid on the sea bed that lies between land- based stations to carry telecommunication signals across the stretches of ocean and sea.

  • Cables are buried under the seabed for protection, in the deep sea submarine cables are directly laid on the ocean floor.

  • Modern submarine cables employ the optical fibre technology to carry digital data.

  • Modern cables are 25 millimetres (0.98) in diameter and weigh 1.4 tonnes or more (per kilometre)

  • The optical fibre cables carry the light pulses. These fibre lines are connected to the user's home/workstation’s router. The router converts light signals to electrical signals.

  • Ethernet cables are used to transmit electrical signals to laptops.

According to Times Now , Mathew Oommen, President, Reliance Jio. said, “Jio is at the forefront of India’s explosive growth in digital services and data consumption.
