Zomato Introduces 10 Days “Period Leaves” For Employees title banner

Zomato, an online food ordering platform, is introducing a ten days period leaves for all the women employees in order to develop a better and inclusive work culture across the organization. Gurgaon-based Zomato, which is founded in 2008, is one of India's most popular companies having more than 5,000 employees.

 

Zomato is a very high-profile organization to initiate the period leave policy in India.

 

Zomato Founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal stated in a blog post,” At Zomato, we want to foster a culture of trust, truth, and acceptance. Commencing from today, all women and transgender at Zomato now can avail up to “10 days period leaves” in a year”.

 

Menstruating employees now can take benefit of one period leave per menstrual cycle and are awarded a total of 10 days per year as “period leaves”. (Source)

 

The company believes that there is no shame or disgrace ascribed in applying for a leave due to a period. Goyal further added, ”You should consider yourself free to inform internal group or email that you are on your leave for a day”.  

 

In a letter to male employees in the blog, Goyal spoke, "Our female executives who are stating that they are on their period leave, shouldn't be embarrassing for us". (A copy of the complete full-text of Goyal’s mail is provided here)

 

In 2018, the Supreme Court upturned a long decade prior ban on women of menstrual age invading the Sabarimala temple in the southern state of Kerala that turns a nationwide debate about women's rights into action.
