COVID-19 has brought about a lot of change in the world, including people wary of contact, shifting towards online shopping, and shunning physical stores. There is a need for innovative new products to support this new lifestyle.

 

In this interview with Analytics Steps, Mr. Varun Gupta, Director, KENT RO Systems, talks about how KENT Cam Technologies develop next-gen products suited for the new normal.

The New Normal

 

The COVID-19 pandemic brought forth several unforeseen changes in our world and created a new normal way of doing everything. “Be it in terms of how we work, play or live, changes are too big and sweeping in nature,” Gupta reflects.

 

The changes in consumer behavior have also given rise to several opportunities. Gupta gives an example- “Footfall in small stores has been reduced to zero now since people don’t prefer to visit physically. This has impacted the sustainability of physical stores and local brands.”

Gupta also adds that KENT CamCall helps with this, by providing “a Live video shopping solution which will allow customers to initiate a video call without any meeting invite or app, just at the tap of a button."

 

The pandemic has also thrown our social norms into disarray- with handshakes and hugs being phased out and an emphasis on going touchless in different aspects of our lives being made. KENT CamAttendance, is targeted to this need, as it “allows organizations to manage their attendance needs through this touchless attendance system, which is based on facial recognition technology.”

 

There has also been an acceleration of technological innovations across sectors that the pandemic brought on. Speaking about KENT Cam Technologies investment in technology, Gupta says- “Technology is a backbone of our entire product portfolio as we firmly believe that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cloud technologies can help us in offering a product basket, which is truly unique and differentiated and offers unmatched value to our customers.”

 

“Pandemic has only opened newer gates for us, which could not have been fathomed in the pre—pandemic days. I think that pandemic has only spurred the entire product life cycle - from development to launch - for us.”

Gupta talks about the need that spurred the creation of KENT CamAttendance. “Over years, organizations have tried to adopt the latest technology to manage attendance, “ He says. “The latest being fingerprint-based attendance systems, which were adopted because of the accuracy of the system and the ease with which employees and administrators could interact with the system.”

 

But the pandemic created a situation where touching a common surface area of a fingerprint scanner became very risky for employees. And this led to obsolescence of fingerprint attendance machines.

 

“Hence, the time is ripe to move to a facial recognition-based touchless biometric solution for attendance management.” Gupta explains. “This gap in the market led to the birth of KENT CamAttendance.”

Conclusion

 

Talking about KENT Cam Technologies’ plans for the future, Gupta says they have a very exciting product pipeline in place. They have launched the KENT CamEye line of advanced cameras, and to further strengthen their position in the camera segment, they plan to launch their Home Camera in the market.

 

This would come with many category-first features like offline recording, cloud recording, up to 128 GB support for micro-SD Card, AI-based motion detection, tracking and human detection, according to Gupta. He adds that plans for the next quarter also includes the launch of high-end video conference cameras and conference speakerphones.
